Strollers by Maclaren
Full Product Description
This recall involves all single and double strollers by Maclaren. The word "Maclaren" is printed on the stroller.
The affected models include the Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno, and Easy Traveller.
A "Kushies Baby" label may be applied to the bottom of the stroller.
Hazard Identified
If the stroller is not fully opened or closed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, the hinge mechanism can pose a risk of fingertip amputation and laceration to the child. When used according the manufacturer's instructions, the strollers are safe and comply with Canadian stroller regulations.
Maclaren USA Inc. has received 15 reports of children placing their finger in the stroller's hinge mechanism, resulting in 12 reports of fingertip amputations.
There has been one reported incident of a Canadian child receiving a laceration from the folding mechanism of a Maclaren stroller.
Corrective Action
Consumers should use caution when opening or closing the stroller and ensure that children are at a safe distance when doing so. Consumers are instructed to contact Kushies Baby Products to receive a free repair kit.
Parents who want the repair kit can sign up on the Kushies website, or call Kushies directly at 1-800-841-5330 (bilingual). For Maclaren strollers that do not carry the Kushies name on the label, consumers are instructed to call Maclaren USA at 1-877-688-2326 or 1-877-442-4622.
Kushies Baby Products is providing support for this recall in cooperation with Maclaren USA.
Number Sold
In Canada, approximately 22 000 of the recalled strollers were sold at The Bay, Toys R Us (Babies R Us), and other retailers.
An unknown number were also sold at Gap Canada Stores.
Time Period Sold
The recalled products were sold from 2004 to November 2009.
