As of surveillance week 31, ending August 6, 2016, the Public Health Agency of Canada has been informed of one human clinical case of West Nile virus (WNV) in Manitoba. The case was classified as West Nile virus Neurological Syndrome.
Mosquitoes
As of surveillance week 31, 62 (0.86 %) out of 7,231 mosquito pools have tested positive for WNV in Canada: Manitoba (16), Ontario (28), Quebec (4), and Saskatchewan (14).
Birds
As of August 6, 2016, the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative has examined a total of 27 dead birds for WNV: Ontario (25), Quebec (1), and Saskatchewan (1). No positives have been reported.
Domestic Animals
As of Aug 6, 2016, no domestic animals, positive for WNV, have been reported by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
United States and U.S. territories
As of August 6, 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have reported 89 cases of West Nile virus disease in the United States, including North Dakota (1), Michigan (1) and Vermont (1). Of these, 36 (40 %) were diagnosed as neuroinvasive disease cases and 53 (60% ) as non- neuroinvasive disease cases. In addition, 24 presumptive viremic blood donors have been identified.

Europe and Neighbouring Countries
As of August 6, 2016, 5 human cases of WNV have been reported in the European Union and 22 cases have been reported in the neighbouring countries.
