Danby Dehumidifier, Simplicity brand, Model number SDR204
No dehumidifiers of this model number have been shipped to the Canadian marketplace since 2005 and there are no products currently at retail anywhere in Canada.
Hazard identified
The internal wiring can short-circuit and ignite, posing a fire hazard since the plastic enclosure may not meet the flame test requirements of the appropriate safety standard.
Danby has received four reports of incidents of concern, one of which may involve an alleged fire.
No illness or injuries have been reported to Health Canada.
Number sold
Approximately 19,500 units of the Danby Dehumidifiers were sold in Canada.
The affected units were sold in Canada by Beeland Co-op, Borderland Co-op, Canadian Tire Corporation, Dupuis Et Fils, Heritage Co-op, Levasseur Enterprises, Lounsbury, Peterborough Appliance, Plum Coulee Co-op, Red Bargain Barn, Richard R. Meubles, Rona, TruServ.
Time period sold
The Danby Dehumidifiers units were sold in Canada between February 2004 and May 2008.
