Product description
This recall involves Haier® brand 7.0 cubic foot capacity white chest freezers with model number HNCM070E, and serial numbers beginning with: 0907, 0908, 0909, 0910, 0911, 0912, 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004. The model number and serial number are printed on a rating label at the top center of the back of the freezer.
Hazard identified
A capacitor in the chest freezer's circuitry can overheat during use, posing a fire hazard.
Haier America Trading, L.L.C. is aware of one incident in the United States where it is believed that the capacitor in the chest freezer overheated and caused a fire in an apartment, resulting in property damage. No injuries were reported.
Neither Health Canada nor Haier America Trading, L.L.C. has received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of this chest freezer.
Number sold
Approximately 5,915 units of the affected products were sold at retailers and by refurbishers across Canada.
Time period sold
The affected products were sold from April 2009 to April 2013.
