Product description

This recall involves Honda FG110 Mini Tiller with Honda GX 25 engine intended for smaller gardens. The mini tillers are red and black with "HONDA" printed on the front tine guard and are approximately 35.5 centimetres (14 inches) wide by 99 centimetres (39 inches) tall.

The serial numbers range from FAAA-1200001 to FAAA-1540440. The serial number is printed on the top side cover of the tillers.

Hazard identified

Tillers with a bent clutch or crimped/pinched throttle cable may cause the tiller tines to unexpectedly rotate upon start up, posing a risk of injury to a foot, leg or hand that is within the tines' rotational path.

Health Canada has not received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to this product in Canada. Honda Canada received 5 warranty claims for clutch/throttle cable damage.  No injuries were reported.

In the United States,  there have been 30 reports of throttle cable damage with no injuries reported.

Number sold

Approximately 7,073 units were sold in Canada, and approximately 219,000 were distributed in the United States. 

Time period sold

The product was sold from September 2007 to April 2016 by authorized Honda Power Equipment Dealers only.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled FG110 Mini Tillers and contact a Honda Power Equipment dealer to arrange for an inspection and/or repair free of charge.

To find an authorized Honda Power Equipment dealer, consumers can contact Honda Canada customer relations by telephone toll-free at 1-888-9HONDA9 (1-888-946-6329) from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.  Consumers can also visit the Honda Power Equipment website and check if their unit is included in the recall by typing in the serial number.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission's website.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
