Product description

This recall involves all sizes of Camalots™ (0.3 to #6) and all sizes of Camalot Untralights™ (.4 to #4) spring-loaded camming devices used by rock climbers to anchor themselves to the rock or to serve as intermediate anchor points while climbing.

For the Camalots™ only, date codes with an "A" are not within the scope of this recall.

The four- or five-digit date code is located on the bottom flat edge of one of the outside lobes of the Camalot™ or Camalot™ Ultralight.

Hazard identified

The axles connecting the cam lobes to the stem may not be properly formed. This could cause the device's strength to be compromised, and the unit could come apart during use. This could result in the potential for a user to be seriously or fatally injured as a result of a fall.

Neither Health Canada nor Black Diamond has received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of this product.

No reports of injury have been received in the United States.

Number sold

Approximately 5,700 units were sold in Canada, and approximately 67,000 units were distributed in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from May 18, 2015 to March 13, 2016.

Place of origin

Manufactured in the United States.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact Black Diamond to arrange for an inspection by Black Diamond or by place-of-purchase personnel, or directions for self-inspection. Black Diamond will replace any improperly manufactured units.
