Affected products

Cree Linear LED T8 Replacement Lamp

Product description

This recall involves a 48” LED replacement lamp for certain 32 watt fixtures which use fluorescent T8 lamps, and is available in cool white. The affected units have “BT848 Series Lamp” marked on the lamp itself or printed on a white label affixed to the lamp, with the product part number appearing on the tube on the line below.  A four digit date code is printed beneath the statement “Compatible with Instant Start, Rapid Start and Dimmable Electronic Ballasts”.

Products with the specified information below are affected: 

  • Model Number: BT848-17040FLW-BDG13-2C200
  • Date Codes: 06/15, 07/15, 08/15, 09/15, 10/15, 11/15, 12/15, 01/16, 02/16, 03/16, 04/16, 05/16.

The products are UL listed to UL 1993, UL8750 and CSA C22.2 No. 1993-12 and CSA C22.2 No. 250.13-12. 

Hazard identified

The recalled lamps can overheat and melt, posing a burn hazard.

Cree, Inc. has received four reports of failure events related to the use of these products in Canada and two reports of consumer-related failure events in the U.S. no injuries were reported. Health Canada has not received any reports of injuries or incidents to Canadians related to the use of this product.

Number sold

Approximately 670 of the recalled products were sold to consumers in Canada through The Home Depot Canada, and approximately 31,905 units were sold to consumers in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold between September 2015 and May 2016.

Place of origin

Manufactured in the United States and China.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected products.

For a refund, consumers with affected products should contact Cree Canada toll-free at 1-800-473-1234 from 8am to 5pm ET Monday-Friday, or by e-mail.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission’s website.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.

Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
