Product description

This recall involves utility gas lighters with the name CM Homeware on the packaging and the brand Chateau engraved on the barrel. These lighters are refillable and the flame is adjustable. The recall concerns model BQ-3 with barcode number 774471038571 written on the lighter's label. The lighter is 265 mm long with a pink, blue, yellow or green plastic handle, and a black metal barrel.

Hazard identified

Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has determined that these lighters do not meet the Lighters Regulations in Canada and may pose a fire or burn hazard.  Specifically the lighters:

  •  may exceed the allowable flame height during ignition;
  • may exhibit an abnormal, sudden increase in flame height; and
  • may continue to burn after the trigger mechanism has been released.

As of May 30, 2018, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

4,192 units of the affected products were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled lighters were sold from April 6, 2017 to April 17, 2018.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lighters and dispose of them according to their local municipal waste requirements or contact the retailer for a refund.
