Health Canada is warning Canadians that a number of different consumer chemical products sold under the brand of Orange TKO Industries (International) Inc. do not carry the mandatory labelling and child-resistant closure as required by the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001.
Issue
These products contain a level of D-limonene that can be hazardous, especially to children, if aspiration occurs.
D-limonene is extracted from citrus fruit (such as orange peel), and is commonly used as an ingredient in cleaners and other household chemical products to provide a citrus smell. Aspiration occurs when the product is coughed up or vomited after being ingested. This coughing/vomiting causes small particles of the product to travel into the lungs and may result in severe health effects including pulmonary injury, chemical pneumonia or death.
Products affected
- Super Concentrated Cleaner
- Super Concentrated Industrial Cleaner
- Orange Pet Power TKO
What you should do
Consumers who have purchased any of the products identified in this advisory should immediately stop using these products and dispose of them in accordance with municipal hazardous waste guidelines.
Who is affected
Consumers who have purchased any of the Orange TKO Industries (International) Inc. products identified in this advisory.
Background
The Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 issued under the authority of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, establish classification criteria, labelling and packaging requirements for chemical products sold to, and used by consumers, including the display of hazard symbols, warning statements, instructions, and first-aid treatment(s), in both official languages. Certain products are also subject to child-resistant packaging requirements.
