Product description

This recall involves Hamilton Beach® bébé 5-Cup Baby Food Maker.  The affected products are identified by model number 36531C in Canada, model number 36531 in the United States and UPC 040094365319 in both countries.

The baby food maker is a small food processor. It has a white and gray motor base with an orange control knob, a clear plastic, five-cup food bowl and a gray-coloured food bowl lid with a built-in, food chute. “Hamilton Beach” and “bébé” are on the front of the motor base. The food maker comes with the following accessories: a chopping and mixing blade, a slicing and shredding disc, a removable motor shaft adapter, a food pusher, a three cup steaming basket, 10 storage containers and two storage container caddies.

Hazard identified

Use of the slicing/shredding disc with the motor shaft adapter can cause the stainless steel pin in the food bowl lid to loosen and fall into processed food.

Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc. has received three reports in Canada and one report in the United States of the stainless steel lid-pin becoming loosened.  No injuries have been reported.

Health Canada has not received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of the baby food makers.

Number sold

Approximately 1,803 of the recalled products were sold in Canada and 277 were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from September 2013 through February 2014 in Canada and the United States.

Place of origin

Manufactured in China.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the slicing/shredding disc immediately and contact Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc. for a free repair kit consisting of a free food bowl lid, removable motor shaft adaptor and slicing/shredding disc.  Consumers may continue to use the baby food maker for steaming, chopping and pureeing.
