STIHL branded HSA 65 battery powered hedge trimmer

Product description

This recall involves STIHL branded HSA 65 battery powered hedge trimmer. The hedge trimmer is grey and orange, with a loop handle, removable battery, and a 20 inch hedge trimming blade.  “STIHL” and “HSA 65” are printed on the side of the battery compartment between the trigger and the loop handle.

Hazard identified

The hedge trimmer may operate faster than expected, continue running briefly after the trigger is released, or operate by depressing either the trigger or the front handle switch, posing a laceration hazard.

Neither Health Canada nor STIHL Limited in Canada has received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of this product.

In the United States, STIHL Inc. has received seven reports of the trigger or front handle switch not operating properly. No injuries have been reported.

Number sold

Approximately 1,000 units of the recalled products were sold in Canada to STIHL dealers and approximately 8,000 units were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from April 2011 to April 2016 in Canada and from June 2010 to April 2016 in the United States.

Place of origin

Manufactured in Austria.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled hedge trimmer and contact a STIHL dealer to make arrangements for a replacement unit (not including any batteries, chargers or related accessories).  Provided that the unit is operational, it will be replaced free of charge.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
