Product description

This recall involves Regency Ultimate U37 and U39 Direct Vent Gas Stove Fireplaces. The recalled products are freestanding gas fireplaces with an angled glass window. They are black, with either black or brushed nickel features. The U39 unit has a cylindrical vent that extends from the top while the U37 unit has a cylindrical vent that extends from the rear.

The model and serial numbers can be found on a label in the unit by opening the pull down door at the bottom front of the unit.

Hazard identified

The pressure release system can fail and cause the gas stove to explode, posing a laceration hazard.

As of May 14, 2018 the company has received 5 reports of incidents in Canada, including 1 report of minor injury. In the United States, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries.

Number sold

Approximately 11,300 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and 13,700 were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The affected products were sold from January 2001 to January 2018 in Canada and the United States.

Consumers should immediately turn off the unit, terminate the supply of gas to the unit and contact Fireplace Products International Ltd. (FPI) to arrange for a repair.
