Joint recall with Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and ÖHLINS RACING AB

Affected products

Front Air Suspension Bicycle Forks

Product description

This recall involves Öhlins branded RXF36 Air and RXF34 front air suspension forks sold as aftermarket equipment and as original equipment on some Specialized-branded Enduro, Stumpjumper, Fuse, and Levo mountain bicycles.

A bicycle fork is the part that connects the front wheel to the frame. The recalled forks are black with "ÖHLINS" written in gold on each of the fork lowers. They have "RXF36" or "RXF34" printed across the fork arch. RXF36 Coil Forks (no air valve on the right-side top cap and "TTX" and "Coil" written on the back of the left fork lowers) are not included in this recall.

Hazard identified

The right-side top cap on some forks may not be adequately torqued which in some cases may lead to the top cap working itself free through riding. When this happens, the air cartridge may abruptly spring out of the stanchion tube causing a risk of injury to the rider.

As of October 25, 2018, the company has received 1 report of the air cartridge springing out of the stanchion tube in Canada, and no report of injuries. In the United States, the company has received 4 reports of the air cartridge springing out of the stanchion tube resulting in 2 reports of injury.

Number sold

Approximately 550 units of the affected bicycle forks were sold in Canada and approximately 5,400 were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The affected products were sold between January 2016 and September 2018.

Place of origin

Manufactured in Taiwan.
