Product description

This recall involves the Bodum + Starbucks Recycled 8 cup coffee press. The press' cylindrical glass beaker, screen and plunger are held in place by a plastic dark gray frame with locking lid and a light gray handle and knob. Bodum and Made in Portugal are embossed on the bottom of the dark gray plastic base.

Hazard identified

The plastic knob at the top of the coffee press may break when the user is pressing down on the coffee press plunger, resulting in exposure of the plunger's metal rod and posing a laceration risk.

As of April 24 2019, the company has received 1 report of a laceration in Canada.  In the United States, the company has received 8  reports of lacerations.

Number sold

Approximately 33,198 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and approximately 231,681 were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The affected products were sold from November  2016 – January 2019.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the coffee press and call Starbucks for store credit by contacting Starbucks at 1-888-843-0245 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST daily.  Returns will not be accepted in stores.

For more information, consumers may visit the firm's website  and click on "Customer Service" at the bottom of the page and then select "Starbucks" under the Recall Information header.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission's website.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
