Health Canada is informing Canadians that it has suspended the establishment licence of Canadadrugs.com LP, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, due to significant concerns with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) discovered during an inspection of its drug wholesaling activities. Wholesaling involves the sale of drug products from manufacturers and importers to pharmacies.

The suspension of the establishment license means Canadadrugs.com is not permitted to wholesale drugs to retail pharmacies, other distributors or wholesalers until these concerns are fully addressed and the establishment licence is reinstated.

To receive and maintain an establishment licence in Canada, a company must comply with GMP requirements as part of the Food and Drug Regulations, which help to ensure that the drugs sold in Canada are safe, effective and of high quality. These guidelines are applied to all companies and are widely known.

Canadadrugs.com is also separately licensed as a pharmacy by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba to sell drugs authorized in Canada to consumers via the internet. In Canada, the provincial and territorial governments are responsible for regulating the practice of pharmacy through their colleges or registrars of physicians and/or pharmacists.

As the pharmacy license issued by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba is still valid, Canadians are still able to purchase their drugs from the website.

Health Canada has notified the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba regarding its inspection findings and the suspension of Canadadrugs.com LP's establishment licence.
